A branch meeting

Spring means colorful breeding plumage on local birds. And some of that plumage will be on display when the Audubon Society of Lincoln City tackles two coastal bird walks on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8.

Friday, April 7: The Villages Open Space

The Villages walk provides diverse habitat for an interesting array of birds. April is a great time to see the last of the wintering songbirds and enjoy early arrivals such as warblers. The route will head downhill past the Sal La Sea wetlands to the parking lot at Roads End State Park for the chance to see nearshore birds.

The group will meet at 9 am on NE Devils Lake Blvd., past the golf course.

Saturday, April 8:  Nestucca National Wildlife Refuge

The two-mile Two Rivers Nature Trail boasts a sweeping viewpoint of the confluence of the Nestucca and Little Nestucca rivers. The walk will be moderate with elevation changes and uneven terrain. Early April offers a unique opportunity to view early migrants along with lingering winter birds and waterfowl.

The group will meet at 10 am at the lower parking lot off Christensen Road.

All the group’s bird walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy, and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. For more information, go to lincolncityaudubon.org.
