A workshop that’s good for the Seoul
An important symbol in Buddhism, the lotus flower represents purity and the possibility for all beings to rise from the mud of desire to blossom in the waters above. From the real lotus flowers in temple gardens to the lotus thrones that support Buddhist deities in sculpture and painting, the image is prevalent throughout Asia.
The lotus is one of the shapes of lanterns, believed to illuminate the world of ignorance with Buddha's wisdom and guide sentient beings, at the annual Lantern Festivals held in Korea.
Learn about this and other aspects of Korean history and culture while receiving step-by-step instruction on how to create a lovely lotus flower lantern of your own at Toledo Public Library this Saturday, July 30.
The in-person workshop will be led via Zoom by a member of the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project, a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to the promotion of greater awareness and understanding of Korean history and culture, headquartered in Seoul, Korea, with branches in New York, Los Angeles, Kaufering, Germany and London.
Colored paper and pre-made wire frames are provided. The free program is for those aged 10 and older.
The workshop begins at 1 pm at Toledo Public Library, located at 173 NW 7th Street. To register, call 541-339-3132.
