Are you dine to see some theater?

There will be a lot going on during “The Dining Room,” the latest show from Lincoln City’s Theatre West, opening on Thursday, May 25.

This two-act play, written by A. R. Gurney, consists of 18 overlapping and unrelated vignettes, all staged in an elegant dining room.

Directed by Bryan Kirsch, the play traces, through the course of a day’s activities in the lives of various families, the struggles and conflicts within upper-middle-class American homes from the Depression era to the 1980s. Stories include a brother and sister dividing up a parent’s possessions, girls in search of liquor and pot, a nephew doing research for his college paper and many more. No two scenes are the same and only one character appears more than once.

The cast is Dave Jones, Andrew Schmitz, Gavin Suckow, Suzanne Gagnon, Cheryl Durinick, Camille Kea and Bonnie Ross.

Manners and deportment as well as public image are big concerns for most of the characters in each scene, no matter the era in which the scenes takes place. Adultery, vanishing customs, the treatment of domestic help, homosexuality, Alzheimer's, sex, drugs, women's education and family values are all subjects discussed and acted out in the titular dining room.

The play runs through Saturday, June 17, with performances at 7:30 pm each Thursday, Friday and Saturday, plus one 2 pm matinée on Sunday, June 4.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 60 and older and $12 for students younger than 12.
Theatre West is located at 3536 SE Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, and tickets go to theatrewest.com or call 541-994-5663.
