Birding on the river

As fall grows cooler, birding gets better. Test this theory and explore the mouth of the Salmon River with members of the Audubon Society of Lincoln City this Saturday, Nov. 11.

The two-hour walk starts at Knight Park in the Cascade Head Scenic Area and wanders through woodlands, marshlands and along the Salmon River. The group will keep an eye out for grebes, gulls, cormorants, waterfowl and raptors. This is a great opportunity to learn more about protected estuarine habitats and the birds and other wildlife that depend on them.

All the group’s bird walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. Walks are held rain or shine; dress appropriately for coastal weather and muddy trails.

The walk will start at 9 am in the Knight Park parking lot at the end of Three Rocks Road. For more information, go to lincolncityaudubon.org.
