Break a leg!

Kathy Bates in the 1990 movie adaptation of ‘Misery’

Ever dreamed of getting tied down by acting in a local theater production? Theatre West in Lincoln City is holding open auditions for “Misery” by William Goldman, directed by Amanda Megyesi-McCave, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 29 and 30.

Roles are available for two men, one of any age and the other from age 35 to 55 and one woman, age 35 to 55. Backstage volunteers of all types are also encouraged to attend. The play opens January 4 and runs until January 27.

“Misery” tells the story of successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his “number one fan” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does.

For auditions, be prepared for readings that show contrasting characteristics, improv and cold readings from the script. You may prepare two monologues of contrasting characteristics, emotions and personalities, but it is not required. This will be somewhat of a physical and emotional show. If you would like to review the script before the audition, or if you have experience with fight choreography, set building, lighting design or any other hidden backstage talents, email TheatreWestofLC@gmail.com or a_mccave@yahoo.com.

Rehearsals begin at 7 pm on both audition days. Theatre West is located at 3536 SE Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to theatrewest.com.
