Choo-se your Quest wisely

You don’t need to be a Medieval knight or invest in fancy GPS equipment to go on a Quest. All you need is a list of clues, some sturdy shoes and a sense of adventure.

This Saturday, Aug. 26, explore Toledo as one of the sites added to the latest edition of the Quest book published by Oregon Sea Grant.

Questing is a 150-year-old tradition that encourages exploration of communities and natural areas through educational, clue-directed hunts.

A paper copy of the Toledo route and clues will be provided. And, if the day inspires you to complete more areas, a copy of the full Quest book will be for sale at the start location, the Yaquina Pacific Railroad Museum.

The adventure will showcase a milieu of settings within the scenic town. Enjoy wildlife viewing along the water’s edge in Waterfront Park area and explore the Arts District and the colorful murals on Main Street and beyond. The Quest will pass by the library, the pool, the community boathouse and other public spaces. The route is on city sidewalks and paved footpaths and will take roughly an hour to complete. It does include a steep uphill and downhill that may be difficult for those in a wheelchair or with strollers but alternate routes can be used if needed.

The Toledo Quest begins at 10 am at the Yaquina Pacific Railroad Historical Society Museum, located at 100 NW A Street.
