Fall into something new

If your idea of an enjoyable fall includes searching for mushrooms, pondering a Granny Smith or delving into perilous dungeons in search of long-lost treasure, you are in luck. All these and more are among the lively fall lineup of community education courses on offer at Oregon Coast Community College.

“Floral Design,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” “Mushroom Foraging,” “Conversations about Geology,” “Visionary Painting,” “Self-Defense” and “Apple Appreciation” are just some of this term’s exciting new courses.

Popular returning classes include “Guitar for Beginners” and “Introduction to Improv” as well as classes on gardening, birding, fitness and art — including painting, mosaics, watercolor, collage, ceramics and more. A full lineup of courses is available at oregoncoast.edu/community-ed.

Classes take place at locations throughout Lincoln County from September through December, led by instructors who are passionate about the subjects they teach.

The college has expanded offerings at its South County Center in Waldport this term, including “Literary Portrait Making,” “Japanese Brush Painting,” “Oil Painting,” “Chocolate Covered Strawberries,” “Photography,” “Zen Meditation,” “Mah Jongg,” “Before End of Life” and “TikTok for Your Business.”

Small business courses on offer this Fall include “Starting a Business in Lincoln County” as well as sessions on topics such as the Basics of Excel and QuickBooks, federal contracting, marketing courses, and more.

The college’s Small Business Development Center is also running extended courses for local businesses with its no-cost Childcare Business Accelerator, Small Business Management Program and Restaurant Small Business Management Program. For more details, contact SBDC Director Gregory Price at greg.price@oregoncoast.edu.

"The Small Business Management Program and its innovative and specialized new cousin, the Restaurant SBM, have both been reimagined and updated from the ground up this year,” said Dave Price, the college’s VP of Engagement, himself a 2010 SBM Program graduate.
