Best concert of the year? It remains to be seen.

Better act fast, it’s unlikely there will be any tickets left over when The Sweet Remains take to the stage at the Newport Performing Arts Center this Friday, Sept. 29.

One of the most sought-after modern folk-rock bands, streamed more than 50 million times on Spotify, The Sweet Remains have a sound that has been compared with that of The Eagles, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Jason Mraz and even John Mayer. The trio has delighted audiences throughout North America and Europe with dynamic live shows.

The group’s three gifted singer-songwriters, Rich Price, Greg Naughton and Brian Chartrand, each contribute to the writing and three-part harmonies that define the band’s sound. Together, they create music that wins praise from audiences and critics alike. Driven by strong lyrical and melodic writing, the band appeals to fans of modern folk-rockers, while lush harmonies distinguish them from throngs of guitar-toting troubadours and harken back to super-groups of the ’60s and ’70s.

Price and Naughton first collaborated on Price’s 2004 Geffen Records debut — an album that spawned his single “I’m On My Way,” which was featured on the multi-platinum “Shrek 2” soundtrack. Hailed by Performing Songwriter Magazine as “a magnetic writer and performer,” Naughton has performed all across the United States, in venues ranging from New Orleans’ grittiest to the East Room of the White House.

Chartrand’s journey as an internationally touring singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has taken him from South Hadley, Massachusetts, to Phoenix, Arizona, where he splits his time as a solo artist and front-man of The Project and Live from Laurel Canyon.

Saturday’s concert starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets for this one-night-only event are $38 each when purchased in person at the Newport Performing Arts Center box office at 777 W Olive Street, or by phone at 541-265-2787. The box office is open from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Friday. Tickets are also available online. To learn more or reserve a seat, go to http://www.coastarts.org/remains.
