Fall is a mi-grate birding season

Look for fall migrants at upcoming Audubon Society of Lincoln City bird walks at the Villages Open Space in Lincoln City this Friday, Oct. 7, and a driving tour from Boiler Bay to Devils Punchbowl on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The Villages Open Space

One of the group’s most popular bird walks, this easy stroll travels through meadows, mixed woodlands and marshes, ultimately arriving at the beach. Possible sightings include black-headed grosbeaks, warblers, sandpipers and more.

The group will meet on NE Devils Lake Blvd., past the golf course entrance. Look for the ASLC sign along the road.

Boiler Bay State Natural Area

Join a driving tour of prime rocky habitats for some excellent seabird watching and possible glimpses at black oystercatchers. The tour will stop at Depoe Bay and Otter Crest Loop to explore the proposed Cape Foulweather rocky habitat complex and will end with a visit to Devils Punchbowl to look for surfbirds, black turnstones and more.

The walk offers the chance to learn more about protected nearshore habitats and the birds and other wildlife that depend on them.

The group will meet in the Boiler Bay parking lot.

All the group’s bird walks begin at 9 am, are easy to moderately easy and no pre-registration or experience is required. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. Walks are held rain or shine, so dress appropriately for coastal weather and muddy trails and be sure to carry water. For more information, go to lincolncityaudubon.org.
