Explore ‘The Other’ in Newport

Experience otherworldly ceramic and mixed-media figurines by Linda Ross in her collection “The Other,” opening this Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Newport Visual Arts Center.

The Brookings-based artist will be representing Curry County in the Coastal Oregon Visual Artist Showcase, which features artists on a rotating basis from Oregon’s seven coastal counties.

A public opening with an artist's talk will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8.

“I have always been an artist,” Ross said, “and I’ve worked with any medium I could get my hands on — paint, stone, wood, but I’ve stayed away from formal arts education. Art is the one place in my life where I get to do things my way!”

Ross currently shows at the Brian Scott Gallery and Wright’s Art and Framing in Brookings. She has won two first-place awards for three-dimensional work in southern Oregon’s Azalea Art Festival.

“The Other” runs through the end of January at the Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Drive, open from noon to 4 pm Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. For more information, go to coast arts.org.
