Go out for Home Movie Day

The amount of data that can be stored on modern phones has become staggering, but many of us are walking around without taking the proper steps to ensure we don’t lose precious photos from one badly timed lean.

An even more precarious form of memory storage is the focus of Home Movie Day, celebrated this Saturday, Oct. 21, at Lincoln City’s North Lincoln County Historical Museum.

This interactive event allows people to learn about different small-gauge movie formats, get their own movies inspected and repaired by a film archivist, learn how to preserve and protect their films and get recommendations for digitization.

Guests will get the opportunity to watch their family’s precious memories on the big screen. The museum will also be projecting films from their archives, including footage of Lincoln City and other Oregon Coast locations in the 1950s and 1960s.

Films accepted, on a first-come-first-served basis, include 8mm, super-8mm and 16mm. If you want to guarantee a spot, you can drop off your films Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. If you are interested in getting VHS, hi8, MiniDV or other media inspected and screened, contact the museum prior to the event.

Home Movie Day runs from 11 am to 3:30 pm at the North Lincoln County Historical Museum, located at 4907 SW Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to northlincolncountyhistoricalmuseum.org or call 541-996-6614.
