If you wind up in Lincoln City…

Summers on the coast tend to be windy, but for some, that’s a very good thing. At the annual Lincoln City Summer Kite Festival, huge, colorful octopuses will swim through the skies, whales will breach the clouds and fast Rokkaku kites will dance through the air in loops and whorls on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26.

Held on the beach at the D River State Recreation Site, the festival takes full advantage of Lincoln City’s long beaches that allow for unobstructed wind to buffer kites, big and small, into the sky.

The wide beach will also play host to a number of on-the-ground activities including a workshop where you can make your own (hopefully) flyable paper kite, and Pixie Fest carnival games.

Parking is available at the Lincoln City Community Center and Lincoln City Outlets. Free shuttle service is available at both locations and runs continuously during the event.

The festival begins at 10 am and ends at 4 pm on both days.
