One of the largest events of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, this year’s Newport Paper and Book Arts Festival will be hosted in a 100-percent virtual format from Sept. 17 to 19.

Studio workshops, lecture workshops and mini lectures will address such topics as box arts, surface design, book arts and paper manipulation.

Registration for the festival, organized through the Newport Visual Arts Center, is free, as are the mini lectures, artist talks and online social events. The lecture workshops run $35 to $60 and can include up to 60 participants.

“Now is the time for festival attendees to register for their workshops,” said festival coordinator Sara Siggelkow. “Some workshops are already full while others have limited capacity.”

Registration for the studio workshops closes on August 29, while registration for the lecture workshops is open through September 16.

The all-day studio workshops, which will be live-streamed and include direct interaction with the instructors, are limited to 15 participants and cost $80 per workshop plus materials fees.

Workshop participants will be able access the online festival recordings until next February.

Festival instructors this year include Casey Newman, Cheri Aldrich, Kelley Salber, Lynne Wintermute, Margo Klass, Naomi S. Velasquez, Pietro Accardi and Rebecca Chamlee.
