New exhibit reads between the lines

Work by Pacific Northwest artist Sue Friesz will be on display in “Nature, Lines and Contours,” the latest show at Lincoln City’s Chessman Gallery, opening this Friday, Sept 16.

Friesz, whose work includes drawing, painting, sculpture and assemblage, spent her early years in Missouri with a family passionate about nature and the environment. She creates her pieces using shapes, contours and patterns found in the plant and built worlds.

The opening reception for the show will run from 5 to 7 pm this Friday, while the virtual gallery tour will be posted on the Lincoln City Cultural Center Facebook on Saturday.

Friesz’s work has been in solo and group exhibitions, both regionally and nationally and in corporate and private collections. She has been included in a New American Paintings exhibition-in-print and is also a fellowship recipient of the Edwin Austin Abbey Memorial Fund.

Since moving to Oregon in 2012, she has shown her work “Transformation” in the PDX Project Window, was included in the Gallery Without Walls in Lake Oswego and was included in the Salon: Portland 2016 Biennial.

Friesz spent the better part of the 1990s living in Asuncion, Paraguay; Curitiba, Brazil; and Beni Suef, Egypt. She has a Master of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, Missouri.

“Nature, Lines and Contours” will be on display through Oct. 31. The Chessman Gallery is located inside the Lincoln City Cultural Center, 540 NE Hwy. 101 and is open from 10 am to 4 pm, Thursday through Sunday.
