Pour over some history at the Pelican

The Cascade Head Biosphere Collaborative will present “Two sides of Cascade Head: A 150-year History of the Salmon River Estuary and Neskowin” at Pelican Brewing in Lincoln City on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Noted American historian Stephen Dow Beckham will provide an illustrated overview of events at Cascade Head, from the late 18th Century to the late 20th Century. Beckham began his research in 1975, performing archaeological and historical site surveys and writing an overview of the historic epoch along the lower Salmon River, on Cascade Head and at Neskowin. Topics include the early Native American presence, the Oregon Coast Reservation, Euro-American settlement, World War II, recreation and tourism.

Beckham is known for his work with Native Americans and the American West, especially the Pacific Northwest and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He has authored many works, and is Pamplin Professor Emeritus at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.

The talk begins at 6 pm at Pelican Brewing at Siletz Bay, located at 5911 SE Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to cascadehead.org.
