On the trail of great prizes
With more than 365 acres of designated and maintained Open Spaces within the city limits, Lincoln City is rich with hiking trails to wander and discover.
This fall, Lincoln City Parks & Recreation is offering a free Trail Challenge to entice more people to get outside and experience all eight: the Knoll, Spring Lake, Friends of Wildwoods, Agnes Creek, Cutler Wetlands, Regatta, Spyglass Ridge and Nesika Park.
This is a free, family-friendly activity with a prize at the end. Many have already started the challenge and are discovering Lincoln City trails and Open Spaces for the first time. Helene Wren and her family have already completed the Trail Challenge.
“It was a lot of fun,” she said. “There are places my kids are already requesting to go back to. Spyglass Ridge was so much fun to explore. Since we live in Otis, Cascade Head is our usual go-to, so it was really fun to push us to explore new areas.”
LCP&R has created video tours of each trail to “show you around” before you go. Follow the Lincoln City Parks & Recreation Facebook page to stay connected on trail videos and the Trail Challenge.
Each of the Open Spaces has a "Lincoln City Trail Challenge" sign; snap a selfie photo with the sign to prove you found it, then share your photos with the hashtag #LCTrailChallenge on the Trail Challenge Facebook event page, your own Facebook page, or email it to llafon@lincolncity.org.
The first 48 people to find all eight signs and complete the challenge will receive a HydroFlask tumbler, made possible by a donation from Hydro Flask’s "Parks For All" program.
To register, go to apm.activecommunities.com/lccc/Home, go to the community center, or call 541-994-2131.
The challenge will continue until all the tumblers are claimed. Trail maps are available at www.lincolncity.org/parksandrec or at the Community Center, 2150 NE Oar Avenue.
