They’re jammin’

Apologies in advance for the fact that, by the time you finish reading this, you are almost guaranteed to have a Bob Marley song stuck in your head, probably for the rest of the day.

The songs written by Marley, who died in 1981, increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide. The album “Legend,” by Bob Marley and the Wailers, remains the bestselling reggae album of all time.

To help celebrate the 77th birthday of this musical legend, reggae band JaSkaMon will perform some of Marley’s biggest hits at the Lincoln City Cultural Center this Saturday, Feb. 5.

A Northwest-based six-piece act led by singer Barry Klusman, JaSkaMon is known for unique combinations of American pop blended with Caribbean beats. Though the band has many original tunes and has produced seven albums since joining together in 2013, this memorial concert will feature a selection of Marley tunes including "One Love," "Natural Mystic," and "Jammin."

"In these times of strife, Bob's uplifting message has more meaning than ever," Klusman said. "We invite others to enjoy this music in a safe setting such as the cultural center."

The all-ages concert will start with a set by Lincoln City-based musician and music teacher Dylan Crawford. Crawford studied music at the University of Idaho and the Berklee College of Music in Boston. With interests in jazz, funk, reggae, Latin and folk-bluegrass, Crawford previously performed in original bands such as Massive Delicious and Rubbidy Bubbidy and currently with the local band ZuhG. He also performs regularly as a solo artist.

Saturday’s show begins at 8 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, 540 NE Hwy. 101. Tickets are $15. For more information, go to lincolncity-culturalcenter.org.
