This concert’s not kidding

“The Child of Christmas,” is the theme of this year’s holiday concert, presented by the Congregational Church of Lincoln City on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 18 and 19.

This festive event has been offered to the community almost every year since 1981. This year’s 40th anniversary concert is under the direction of the event’s third conductor, Rev. Phyllis M. Thompson.

Thompson has a background in both music and theater, and she will be supported by assistant music director and accompanist, Carol Wolfe, a long-time music teacher.

Planning began in late summer once these two musical ladies felt their community needed some Christmas spirit even during these challenging times. In September, the word was sent out to call a celebration choir together and all have been working together since mid-October.

Under Thompson’s direction, this year’s song selections will be a mix of styles, including not only classic pieces but contemporary secular numbers and old Christmas traditional songs aimed at taking a journey into childhood memories of this special season.

The evening will also include an audience sing-along, a presentation by the church’s bell choir and the two choirs joining together for the song, “Mary Did You Know?”

The concerts will begin at 7 pm on Saturday and 3 pm on Sunday.  The Congregational Church of Lincoln City is located at 2435 NW Oar Place.
