Toledo plans Main Street dust up

Chalk. It is one of the simplest art supplies, but can transform a concrete sidewalk into a playground or create three-dimensional images of holes or breaks in solid surfaces so real you are wary of walking across them.

To tap into local and visiting talent and provide a fun summer event, ART Toledo created Chalk the Block, a competitive contest taking place this Saturday, Aug. 19.

For those who balk at the idea of sitting on the sidewalk or have mobility challenges, there will be tables provided on which to create your art.

Prizes will be awarded in individual categories of 11 and younger, 12 to 18 and adults. There will also be prizes for the best family orgroup entry.

There is no fee to participate even though there will be cash prizes awarded.

This is also a great spectator event — come early to see the art created from the beginning or arrive after the judging and peruse the art at your leisure.

The event begins at 9 am in front of Toledo City Hall on Main Street. Judging will begin at noon.
