Yachats has the vow factor

Still looking for that perfect way to show your love on Valentine’s Day? The annual Valentine’s Day Ceremony of Renewal and Commitment will take place Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Church of the Agate Windows in Yachats.

Local interfaith minister Mary Crook, who has facilitated the event since it began, will lead two services at 12:30 and 5:30 pm. The theme this year for this secular event will be “Rebuilding your Commitment.” All committed couples, married or unmarried, are invited to participate. Each couple will receive a decorative certificate as a memento of the occasion.

Live music will be provided by local musicians John “JD” Deriberprey at the 12:30 pm seating and David Cowden at the 5:30 pm seating.

The event has become a popular tradition over the years, drawing couples from throughout the state. The museum suggests a donation of $20 per couple, with all proceeds going to benefit the Little Log Church Museum.

Thanks to the generosity of Pastor Bob Barrett and the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, this will be the third year the vow renewals are to be held at the current location. The tradition began in 1996 at the historic Little Log Church Museum in Yachats, which is about to undergo major repair and restoration.

The Yachats Community Presbyterian Church is located at 360 W 7th Street.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. To make reservations or for more information, call Crook at 541-547-4547.
