You otter be there

Elakha is a Chinook trading language word for the sea otter, once plentiful in Oregon’s coastal waters before the fur trade drove them to local extinction.

Join the Elakha Alliance this Saturday, Oct. 1, for a presentation called, "Sea Otters: Once Here and Perhaps Again” at the North Lincoln County Historical Museum.

Alliance Board President Bob Bailey will discuss an overview of sea otters, their ecological roles, their historical presence and loss at the hands of the fur trade industry and the group’s work to return them to Oregon’s coastal waters.

The Elakha Alliance was formed in 2018 by tribal, nonprofit and conservation leaders with a shared belief in a powerful vision: an Oregon coast 50 years from now with a thriving sea otter population and a robust and resilient marine ecosystem.

The talk begins at 1 pm at North Lincoln County Historical Museum, located at 4907 SW Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. For more information, go to northlincolncountyhistoricalmuseum.org.
