The Audubon Society of Lincoln City will lead bird walks at parks both old and new in Lincoln City this Friday, July 8, and in Newport on Saturday, July 9.
Friday, Nesika Park
Visit Lincoln City’s newest city park. "Nesika" means "Our place" in the Chinook language. Explore new trails, visit the nesting Osprey pair and look for songbirds in the woods and wetlands.
The group will meet at the dead end at Keel Street, before SE 3rd Street on the park’s west side.
Saturday, Yaquina Head
Explore the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Outstanding Natural Area just north of Newport. Sightings could include nesting colonies of common murre, Brandt’s and pelagic cormorants and black oystercatchers. Peregrine falcons can be seen on the cliffs near the visitor center.
The group will meet in the visitor center parking lot.
All the group’s bird walks are free, family-friendly, easy to moderately easy and require no prior experience. Binoculars and guidebooks are provided. Walks are held rain or shine; dress appropriately for coastal weather and muddy trails.
Both hikes begin at 9 am. For more information, go to lincolncityaudubon.org.
