A Barnes-storming show

Memphis-style gospel soul will fill the Lincoln City Cultural Center this Sunday, Oct. 1, when the Sensational Barnes Brothers arrive at the Oregon Coast.

Chris and Courtney Barnes create a melting pot of the old and the new. As PopMatters states: “The brothers run through a spectrum of moods and modes in their gospel soul, often bridging the gap between, say, the Soul Stirrers and Stax, all the while keeping a local flavor.”

Raised in Memphis, the brothers grew up performing in a family band with their parents, Calvin "Duke" Barnes and Deborah Barnes, one of the early Raelettes. As a duo, the brothers dive deep into their roots, creating a sound that reflects the music of their history as well as new influences from their work with Making Movies, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and others.

Sunday’s concert will start at 7 pm at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, 540 NE Hwy. 101.

Tickets for reserved theater-style seating, $35 for general admission; $32 for seniors and students; and $20 kids aged six to 18; are available at lincolncity-culturalcenter.org.
