A tree-mendous event in Lincoln City

Arts and crafts of all kinds will be up for grabs this weekend, accompanied by a slate of live music, as the inaugural Lincoln City Winter Art Festival gets underway.

Held inside the Lincoln City Cultural Center, the festival coincides with the annual tree-lighting ceremony, which sees the community tree burst into life on the front lawn.

The festival features booths from 30 local and regional artists, showcasing everything from blown and stained glass, pottery and sculpture to driftwood art, jewelry, photography and more. The booths will fill the center’s auditorium on both days on the festival, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26. The auditorium will also ring out with live music throughout the weekend (see box).

The center’s Chessman Gallery and Fiber Art Studio will also be open both days, as well as artist studios located downstairs.

The Grub's On barbecue food truck will be serving up hot favorites for eat-in or take-out, while the Bakery Babes Bake Sale will offer homemade goodies, hot coffee, hot chocolate and tea.

On Friday, from 2 to 5 pm, kids can take part in an Ornament Make ‘N Take, and pose for photos with the cultural center’s two plush reindeer.

At 4:45 pm on Friday, the Sweet Adelines will start singing Christmas carols to usher in the tree-lighting ceremony at 5 pm and the arrival of Santa Claus shortly afterward. Kids will be treated to cookies and candy canes, and Santa will stay until all wishes are heard.

The festival will continue throughout Saturday, wrapping up at 4 pm with two raffle drawings, the first for “Lincoln the Bear,” a four-foot-tall chainsaw-carved, salmon-toting bear created by James Lukinich. The second raffle is for the chance to win donated art by the festival’s talented vendors. Ticket holders need not be present to win.

The Lincoln City Winter Art Festival will run from noon to 7 pm on Friday, Nov. 25, and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, 540 NE Hwy. 101.
